The legend of the"Happiness" road on Ha Giang Stone Plateau

The legendary HappinessRoad, also known as NationalHighway 4C, starts Ha Giang city and winds through 4 highland districts: Yen Minh, Quan Ba, Dong Van and Meo Vac. This nearly 200 km long road was started construction in September 1959, in the context of the country being divided by war.

More than 1,200 volunteer youths and citizens from16 ethnic groups worked together, chiseling stones, tarpaulins, and filling deep holes to create roads. The work takes place in extremely difficult, deprived and dangerous conditions. Many young men died in the line of duty, adding to the myth of this path.

After 6 years, the Happiness Road Was officially completed on March 20, 1965. The name ''Happiness'' was given by President Ho Chi Minh himself, expressing the joy and pride of local people when there is a convenient road, connecting remote villages with the center.
