Meo Vac, Ha Giang: ‘Stone Flowers’ Bloom in Northwest Mountain Forests

Nature doesn’t favor Meo Vac. Sunshine is abundant, rain is rare, the land is arid, gravel, and there is very little productive land.

A Remote District in Ha Giang

Located about 160 km from Ha Giang City, the road to Meo Vac winds through mountain passes and misty valleys. This remote district has harsh terrain, an unforgiving climate, and challenging living conditions. Around 80% of its population are ethnic minorities who still practice traditional, labor-intensive farming methods.

Nature doesn’t favor Meo Vac. Sunshine is abundant, rain is rare, the land is arid, gravel, and there is very little productive land. The economy is mainly based on agriculture with models such as raising fattening cattle, specializing in high-quality rice cultivation ... But there are still many limitations.

Despite its hardships, Meo Vac boasts breathtaking natural beauty. Towering cliffs, twisting mountain roads, and tranquil villages perched on hillsides create a wild yet captivating landscape. Visitors are drawn not only to its scenery but also to the simplicity and authenticity of local life.

Recognizing its potential, Meo Vac launched a community-based cultural tourism initiative in 2016. This bold step has helped transform the district, attracting more travelers eager to experience this “land of stone flowers”.

Typically, there are 5 cultural and community tourism villages: Lo Lo Chai, Na Lung - Pai Lung commune, Thuong Phung, Lung Cam and Na Lung - Na Lung commune.
