Why These Ha Giang Loop Highlights Matter

If you’re heading north and want to know what to actually stop for—not just ride past—this list is for you.

1. Ma Pi Leng Pass – The King of Vietnam’s Roads

This is the highlight of the Ha Giang Loop, whenever people talk about the Loop. Ma Pi Leng is where the mountains feel massive, the roads feel wild, and the views? Straight-up insane.

You’ll ride along cliffside roads overlooking the Nho Que River far below. There are spots to stop, take photos, or just sit and stare at the landscape like, “Is this even real?”

If there’s one place you make sure to take your time at, it’s here.

2. Nho Que River – Kayak Through the Canyon

Running beneath Ma Pi Leng Pass, the Nho Que River is a narrow turquoise ribbon slicing through the mountains. And yes, you can get on it.

Boat rides or kayaks are available at the base of the pass, and floating through the gorge gives you a whole new perspective on the Loop’s scale. This isn’t just a look-and-go stop—this one’s an experience.

3. Dong Van Karst Plateau – Ride the Stone Forest

This entire region is a UNESCO Global Geopark, and once you see it, you’ll get why. The landscape turns alien- jagged limestone cliffs, razor-sharp peaks, and endless stone ridges. It’s like riding across another planet.

The most dramatic sections stretch between Tam Son and Dong Van. The roads twist through valleys and up raw, ancient-looking terrain. Every corner is a new wow moment.

Du Gia is a bit off the main path, which is exactly why it’s awesome. Surrounded by rice terraces and hills, this village feels way more laid-back than the rest of the loop.

Just outside the village is a waterfall where you can swim, sunbathe on the rocks, or just kick back. After two or three days of riding, this stop is a blessing. It’s the kind of place where your boots come off, and you finally slow down.

5. Lung Cu Flag Tower – The Roof of Vietnam

It’s the northernmost point of Vietnam, and even though the flag tower itself is man-made, the view up top is 100% worth it. You can see China on a clear day, and the layered hills and farmland below stretch forever.
